Yin Qiao San originally appeared in the Chinese medical classic Wen Bing Tiao Bian (Detailed Analysis of Seasonal Febrile Diseases, 1798 A.D.) by Wu Tang (1758-1836), primarily as a formula to treat “heat toxins and release the exterior of the body for the treatment of wind-heat affliction with chills and fever, and headache. The usual symptoms are fever without perspiration, or hindered perspiration, and an aversion to cold, with headache, thirst, cough, sore throat, superficial and rapid pulse. It is applicable to flu, acute tonsillitis, early stage measles, early stage cerebrospinal meningitis, etc.
